Tommie Adams, Jr. is a freelance photographer and artist with more than 16 years of experience capturing a variety of subjects. His photos have been featured in several publications and exhibits within the Washington DC Metro area, to include The Washington Post, The Washington Blade, several travel magazines, and Marriott International. He has photographed and worked on local Washington DC community initiatives and political events, including World AIDS day, Metropolitan Community Church events, and the National Equality March. He was part of the 8 minority photographers collective for the capturing the “100 Washington DC AIDS Heroes Project” archived at the Martin Luther King Library. He had several pieces in various exhibits in and around Washington DC, including The Honfleur Art Gallery and The MOCA Gallery in Georgetown, as well as exhibits in Seattle, Washington and his first solo exhibit as part of Lumen8Anacostia. He also created the photo “We are Anacostia” used to help initiate and bring new local business to Anacostia, like BusBoys and Poets restaurant. And he was a featured local artist, twice, for the Smithsonian local artist tour.
He received overwhelming positive reviews and accolades for his work with the “Male Nude in Natural Light” where one piece was selected and exhibited as part of the “East of the River” Artist show. “For my exhibit, I wanted to remind viewers of the possibilities, strength, beauty and the importance of the male nude as an artistic subject matter as well as an art form,” quotes Mr. Adams.
His influences include figure drawing, writing, and music. “I think they all play a significant role in creating more inventive photographic compositions for me. The camera becomes my musical instrument that I use to make visual images that capture and move the viewers emotions.” Mr. Adams states, “Photography is my passion and I hope to continue to work in the discipline for years to come. “
